Osotsi warns Oparanya against being misled by Junet

Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi cautioned former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya against being misled by Suna East Member of Parliament Junet Mohamed as political alignments shift within the opposition. At a rally in Kakamega on August 8, 2026, Osotsi affirmed his respect for Oparanya as a senior leader but warned him against deceitful political promises.

He accused Junet of attempting to sway Oparanya toward a potential Deputy President role, dismissing claims that Junet was aspiring to higher office and drawing cheers from his supporters. Osotsi's remarks come as Oparanya remains a significant political figure in Western Kenya and is reportedly involved in discussions about the future of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and opposition unity.

Junet Mohamed, however, has not publicly responded to Osotsi's assertions. Meanwhile, National Assembly Minority Leader Junet has hinted that the ODM might seek the Deputy President position in a political arrangement with President William Ruto ahead of the 2027 general election, proposing Wycliffe Oparanya as the preferred candidate.

Junet endorsed Oparanya, highlighting his extensive service in ODM and strong political ties with party leader Raila Odinga.
