NaCCA warns schools against use of unapproved assessment materials

The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) has issued a stern warning to all pre-tertiary schools in Ghana, urging them to cease the use of unapproved assessment materials and mock examination papers. This directive, issued on August 7, 2026, follows complaints that unvetted assessment items and mock exams have been utilized in some basic schools. The notice was signed by NaCCA's Director-General, Prof. Samuel Ofori Bekoe.

NaCCA, the regulatory body responsible for approving assessment materials for pre-tertiary education in Ghana, made it clear that no school is permitted to use externally developed assessment materials unless they have first been vetted and approved by the Council. The Council has warned that schools procuring, administering, or facilitating the use of unapproved assessment materials will face regulatory sanctions.

The directive aims to ensure that assessment materials in use align with approved curriculum and assessment standards, maintaining consistency in evaluating students. NaCCA expressed concern over the increasing reliance on assessment materials produced by external entities without the Council's approval. By mandating that heads of pre-tertiary institutions verify the approval status of any externally developed assessment materials, NaCCA seeks to uphold its statutory mandate and safeguard the integrity of the assessment process for Ghanaian learners.
