Motorway Police Gets One-Month Deadline to End Corruption

Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan has given the Motorway Police a one-month deadline to eradicate corruption, threatening dismissal and criminal prosecution for those found guilty of bribery or other corrupt activities. During a video-link meeting with the All Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance, Khan directed the inspector general of motorways to ensure no corrupt officials remain employed.

He labeled these officials as "black sheep" and emphasized their removal from the system. Khan also announced the immediate enforcement of the axle load policy, prohibiting overloaded vehicles from using Pakistan's motorways. The minister praised the agreement reached by goods transport owners on this policy and called for their cooperation in safeguarding the country's motorway and highway infrastructure.

Transporters expressed concerns regarding the axle load policy, SRO-related matters, challenges faced by their vehicles on motorways, and other operational issues. Khan reassured them that their legitimate demands would be addressed promptly, stating that the issues concerning the Mazda Association and 10-wheelers would be prioritized.

He urged transporters to resolve their concerns through dialogue rather than resorting to extreme measures. Khan invited representatives of the goods transport sector to Islamabad for further discussions aimed at resolving outstanding issues, emphasizing the necessity of collaboration between the government and the transport sector for the protection of motorways and highways and the resolution of the industry's concerns.
