Osun State is preparing for its governorship election on August 15, with the Nigeria Police Force taking extensive measures to ensure security at polling stations. Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu announced that a minimum of four officers will be stationed at each of the 3,673 polling units across the state's 30 local governments and 332 wards.

This deployment is expected to be the largest in the state's history. The security situation is also being supported by personnel from other security agencies. Meanwhile, opposition parties and citizens have called for the removal of EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede over the freezing of the Osun State Government's account, alleging the decision was politically motivated.

Additionally, five out of twelve players from Nigeria's Junior D’Tigers team were found ineligible to participate in the FIBA U-18 AfroBasket Championship in Ivory Coast due to age falsification. This has sparked debates about age eligibility in Nigerian basketball.
