Melbourne teen charged amid 'call Commission' notes, arson probe

A 17-year-old Melbourne teen has been charged in connection with a series of arson attacks and drug-related offenses, according to an ongoing investigation. Police believe the youth may have been involved in carrying out criminal tasks for an offshore crime syndicate known as "the Commission." The teen was apprehended during a search of his residence in Moonee Valley, where authorities seized eight mobile phones and numerous SIM cards.

The investigation began when notes were discovered on shopfronts across Melbourne and regional Victoria, urging business owners to contact "the Commission" before arson attacks occurred. The most recent incident occurred in early July, when an arson attack damaged shopfronts on Victoria Street in Richmond, shortly after a note was left at a local tobacco store.

Detective Inspector Graham Banks stated that the investigation, Operation Eclipse, was launched in April to target the syndicate behind the attacks and other acts of violence. Police are targeting every level of the organization, focusing on youths who may be unaware of the severity of their actions. Detective Inspector Banks warned that these crimes can have devastating consequences for both the offenders and their families, as well as the wider community.

The teenager is currently set to face the children's court at a later date, charged with drug possession, counterfeit money, and failing to provide information to police.
