Maiden Kalaratna Award for Kalamandalam Sibi Chakravarthy

Kalamandalam Sibi Chakravarthy, a Kathakali artiste, will be the recipient of the inaugural Kalaratna Award, established by the Palakkad Kathakali Club. This esteemed honor, awarded on the occasion of the club's 20th anniversary celebrations, comes with a monetary prize of ₹10,000 and a citation. The Kalaratna Award, introduced this year, will be bestowed upon an artiste from the realms of Kathakali acting, music, or percussion.

The club's 20th-anniversary festivities will take place at the Chembai Memorial Government Music College on Saturday. A Kathakali play titled Nalacharitham Day-4, featuring acclaimed artistes, will be performed as part of the celebration. The Palakkad Kathakali Club has been hosting Kathakali performances on the second Saturday every year for the past 21 years.

Club officials announced on Thursday that the anniversary program will feature prominent Kathakali artistes.
