Kabini dam: Fresh flood alert issued as rains intensify in Kerala

The Kabini dam, located in Mysuru district, has seen a significant increase in inflow following heavy rains in Kerala. The authorities have issued a fresh flood warning, urging residents in the downstream areas of the Kapila river to remain vigilant due to the rise in water discharge from the dam. On Friday morning, the outflow from the dam was measured at 7,000 cusecs, while the inflow stood at 11,217 cusecs.

This surge in inflow, attributed to rain in Wayanad and nearby regions, led to an outflow of approximately 10,000 to 15,000 cusecs into the river. Executive Engineer H.D. Kote warned that further increases in outflow are possible, advising people living near the Kapila to relocate to safer locations and secure their properties and livestock.

The highest rain recorded in Mysuru district on this day was 11.5 mm, while Kodagu experienced a fresh spell of rain, increasing the inflow into the Harangi dam near Kushalnagar to 8,940 cusecs. This rise was accompanied by an outflow of 8,000 cusecs to the Cauvery. Meanwhile, the Krishnaraja Sagar reservoir had previously seen a decrease in inflow, with Friday's measurement at 7,477 cusecs and a reservoir level of 106.37 ft.
