Joe Biden’s son: ‘Dad’s cancer has spread to his bones and beyond’

Former President Joe Biden's son Hunter Biden disclosed in a recent BBC interview that his father's prostate cancer has progressed and is now affecting his bones, causing him considerable pain and debilitation. The 83-year-old former president was diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer in May 2025, just months after leaving the White House.

Hunter Biden empathized with his father's condition, noting that it was "very painful and debilitating." Despite the illness, Joe Biden remains involved in public life and continues to advocate for issues dear to him. Hunter acknowledged the challenges this poses for his father, stating, "The only thing I'd say about my dad, about his health right now, is I wish he would complain more, because it's not good."

The news of his father's declining health comes in the wake of Joe Biden's withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race following a performance in the June 2024 debate against Donald Trump, which many perceived as a sign of his age and diminished fitness for office. Hunter recounted his father's decision to end his own reelection campaign and endorsed then-Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee.

He also addressed the controversial presidential pardon Joe Biden granted him shortly before leaving office, acknowledging that it was "unfair" to the American public, while defending his father's personal decision.

Hunter Biden's interview also shed light on his own difficult past, revealing that he struggled with severe addiction, drinking nearly four liters of vodka per day and smoking crack cocaine multiple times daily. He expressed that this period was "hell on Earth." The former vice president did not plan to pursue a career in politics, instead expressing a desire to assist others battling addiction. Joe Biden is anticipated to publish his memoir, titled "Promise Me, America," following the midterm elections.
