Israel shifts right, but Netanyahu's coalition is losing ground: Here's why - analysis

The Israeli public has moved to the right following the war, but the coalition parties representing the right-wing parties are losing ground. This suggests that approximately 15 to 25 right-wing mandates are currently looking for a political home as the election campaign begins. The shift in public opinion aligns primarily with three key areas: tradition and Judaism, a hard-line security approach, and support for settlement in Judea and Samaria, alongside opposition to giving up territory in exchange for agreements.

Although an estimated 68 mandates in the current Knesset held these values before October 7, the current polls indicate fewer support for these parties. The main reasons behind this dissonance include the composition of the Likud list and the alliance with the haredi parties, as well as dissatisfaction with the government's handling of the cost of living, judicial reform, and failure to address the October 7 disaster.

Opposing parties have shifted to a combative stance to outflank the government from the right, focusing on issues such as haredi recruitment into the IDF and judicial reform. However, these parties struggle to provide a convincing answer regarding tradition, as it is unclear how they will address this value in the upcoming election.
