I want to win Miss Universe Nigeria like my mum — Dr Danielle Adewusi

Dr. Danielle Adewusi, a medical doctor, model, public speaker and Miss Universe Nigeria contestant, discusses her career, beauty pageant legacy and other issues in an interview with TOFARATI IGE. Growing up with an appreciation for pageantry due to her mother, who won Miss Universe Nigeria 35 years ago, Dr. Adewusi never initially saw pageantry as her main focus.

Instead, she prioritized excelling in school and becoming a doctor. However, a pivotal moment during medical school led her to reflect on her passions and realize that her various pursuits, including medicine, women's health advocacy, modelling, and public speaking, could be combined into a single mission - represented by Miss Universe.

She decided to enter the competition to utilize the platform to champion women's health and create meaningful change for women and girls in Nigeria and beyond. The legacy of her mother winning the title 35 years ago is not planned, but it has added meaningful depth to her journey. Despite facing pressure, Dr. Adewusi maintains faith in God's plan for her life, works hard and is confident in her purpose.

Her mother taught her to be confident in her appearance, stand tall and carry herself with grace both on and off stage. Dr. Adewusi intends to use the Miss Universe Nigeria platform to amplify women's health issues, focusing on education and improving access to healthcare. She believes that combining beauty, impact, medicine, charity and public speaking is demanding, but she encourages young women to strive for a holistic approach, unapologetically pursuing their dreams while using their gifts to make a positive difference in others' lives.
