Herdsmen attacks: ‘Idoma land is a wounded traveller’ — Abba Moro

Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro of Benue South has likened Idoma land to "a wounded traveller," calling on Idoma people to unite in addressing security and developmental challenges. Speaking at the Idoma Association's inaugural convention in London, Moro emphasized the need to reflect on the future of their homeland amid insecurity, displacement, and economic hardships.

He drew parallels to the biblical Good Samaritan parable, urging the community to either pass by or offer assistance. The senator lamented the loss of lives, displacement of families, and abandonment of ancestral farmlands due to persistent insecurity in Benue South. Moro has consistently advocated for stronger federal intervention, improved security measures, and greater protection for affected communities.

He noted that President Bola Tinubu's creation of new Army divisions, including one in Makurdi, could help reduce response times to security incidents. However, he stressed that government efforts alone would not suffice for lasting peace and prosperity, urging the diaspora to contribute through advocacy, investment, philanthropy, and knowledge transfer.

Moro called for Idoma professionals and entrepreneurs abroad to invest in agriculture, technology, education, healthcare, manufacturing, hospitality, and SMEs, aiming to create sustainable opportunities. He highlighted government interventions such as the North Central Development Commission, the Opialu-Ojapo College of Agriculture and Technology, and projects in education, healthcare, rural electrification, water supply, roads, youth empowerment, and skills acquisition.

Moro urged the Benue State Government to provide additional support to security personnel. He appealed to the international community and human rights organizations to address the humanitarian situation in Benue South, likening displacement to genocide by neglect and hunger to a weapon. Moro pledged to continue advocating against killings until peace returned.

He also encouraged preserving the Idoma language among people in the UK and other parts of the world, emphasizing unity among Idoma people at home and abroad.
