Hamas urges US pressure on Jerusalem over Gaza plan; Israel said to warn of ‘ambush’

Hamas has reaffirmed its commitment to a US-backed Gaza peace plan, urging the international community, particularly the United States, to pressure Israel to comply. In a statement to AFP, a Hamas official confirmed the group's readiness to implement the agreement, provided Israel agrees and begins its part of the deal. The official emphasized that Hamas is urging the US administration to exert pressure on Israel to ensure its adherence to the agreement and move to the second phase.

However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, facing a tough re-election campaign in October, has maintained that Israel has not agreed to the "draft" presented by the Board of Peace. Netanyahu met with the Board of Peace's high representative, Nickolay Mladenov, who stated that Israel would withdraw only after Hamas fully disarms.

Despite the ongoing Israeli military presence in Gaza, recent attacks appear to have decreased in intensity. Since October last year, when the ceasefire was agreed upon, Israel has killed 1,257 Palestinians, while the Israeli army has reported five deaths during the same period.
