Father of soccer star Lionel Messi dies at 68 in Argentina

Jorge Messi, father of renowned soccer player Lionel Messi, passed away on Friday night at the age of 68 in a medical clinic in Rosario, Argentina, according to the family. After battling a long illness, Jorge spent his final months alternating between the clinic and their home, with constant support from his wife Celia and their children, Rodrigo, Matías, and María Sol.

Lionel Messi visited his father during this difficult period before resuming his career with Inter Miami, returning to action a week after his father's death. Jorge had been a constant presence in Lionel's life, beginning when the younger Messi played for Barcelona. He served as a crucial pillar of support, often expressing his opinion on Lionel's performance after matches.

Lionel, the captain of the Argentine national team, shared that during the World Cup, he experienced mixed emotions after scoring a hat-trick against Algeria. Although the goal was a triumph, he broke down in tears due to personal issues unrelated to football.
