Falcons Surprisingly Release Former Second-Round Pick

The Atlanta Falcons recently made a surprising move by releasing a member of their veteran roster. Troy Andersen, a player who was originally selected by the Falcons in the 2022 NFL Draft with the No. 58 overall pick, was let go after he spent the whole of training camp on the physically unable to perform list. Andersen had only appeared in 26 games since joining the league in 2022.

This decision came at a time when the team needed to create space on the active roster for new wide receiver Kristian Wilkerson. Andersen had earlier restructured his contract this offseason, which effectively pushed his salary back one year after he had been sidelined for the entire 2021 season due to injury. Despite his athletic abilities, Andersen's release opens up opportunities for other teams, including the New England Patriots, Tennessee Titans, and Arizona Cardinals, all of whom could benefit from his skills, particularly in the linebacker position.
