Coal production hit as heavy rains lash State’s coal belt

Heavy rains recently swept through the coal regions of Mancherial and Kumram Bheem Asifabad districts, causing significant disruption to coal excavation operations. On Thursday, the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) reported that five opencast projects in the Mandamarri, Bellampalli, and Srirampur areas were affected, leading to a loss of approximately 40,000 tonnes of production over the past two days.

The relentless rainfall left the ground saturated, resulting in slushy conditions that rendered shovels, dumpers, and other heavy machinery inoperable at their respective yards. SCCL officials responded by deploying heavy-duty pumps to pump out the accumulated rainwater and help restore mining activities once the weather improved.

While mining operations were hampered in the opencast projects, the company took steps to ensure a steady supply of coal to the state's power stations, including the SCCL's Thermal Power Station in Mancherial district. Despite the temporary setback, SCCL officials assured that necessary arrangements were being made to maintain the uninterrupted coal supply to the region's energy needs.
