China's memory-making champion smashes DDR5-8800 barrier on AMD platform — CXMT chips close the gap with SK hynix

Chinese chipmaker ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) has recently made waves in the memory market by achieving DDR5-8800 speeds on AMD's X870E platform, according to Colorful's latest overclocking exhibition. This accomplishment places CXMT's ICs on par with top-tier competitors like SK hynix's A-die and M-die. Despite being a relatively new entrant in the industry, established in 2015, CXMT has quickly risen to become China's largest domestic memory manufacturer and the fourth-largest globally.

The company's success can be attributed to the ongoing memory shortage, which has propelled its growth in the DDR5 segment. While CXMT currently uses 16nm nodes with DUV technology due to U.S. export restrictions, it is developing a 1a-nm node on DUV. Despite the challenges, CXMT is already being integrated into various consumer devices by companies like HP, Asus, and Acer, and has attracted interest from tech giants like Apple.

With ambitions to capture 30% of the market share from the Big Three by 2030, CXMT is rapidly expanding its production capabilities across China.
