Amiga August 2026 Update

Amiga Corporation has secured the copyrights to the works of former Commodore and Amiga companies, including source code, binaries, hardware designs, and documentation. The trademarks, such as Commodore and C=, are also under Amiga's ownership. The company previously owned the trademarks for Commodore-branded PCs but transferred them to Tulip Computers.

Under a recent agreement, Amiga licenses CBM 8-bit software and documentation to Commodore for use in their products. Amiga retains the right to use and reproduce Commodore marks in historical and descriptive contexts. The agreement confirms Amiga's control over technical and numbering resources associated with Commodore-formative entities.

Hyperion Entertainment will continue to develop and distribute AmigaOS 4, with Hyperion's rights in 68K AmigaOS products being transitional and limited to AmigaOS 3.2 and 3.3 as upgrades for existing licensed systems. The distribution of these products will end no later than December 31, 2027. Amiga is responsible for preserving historical Commodore and Amiga assets and directing the development of AmigaOS for the 68K platform, while Hyperion will provide source code, revision history, and documentation for AmigaOS 3.1.4 to be used in Amiga's 68K AmigaOS development.
