Amid Cauvery release order, Kabini farmers seek immediate canal water release

As the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee has ordered the release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu, farmers in the Kabini irrigation project's ayacut area in Mysuru district are demanding immediate water release into the Kabini canal from the government. At a meeting held in T. Narasipura on Friday, farmers expressed that their community is suffering greatly due to the ongoing dry spell.

Dried-up tanks have left them with insufficient drinking water and fodder for their livestock, causing acute hardship. The farmers also requested that representatives of Cauvery basin farmers be included in the State government's proposed all-party meeting on the Cauvery water-sharing issue. Kurubur Shanthakumar, president of the Federation of State Farmers' Organisations, emphasized that including farmer leaders from the Cauvery basin would provide ground realities and prevent the issue from being politicized, as the meeting would only involve political party leaders otherwise.
