Afghanistan’s Rashid takes six wickets in ODI thrashing of Ireland

Rashid Khan led Afghanistan to a dominant 92-run victory over Ireland in their second one-day international. The match, played at Bready Cricket Club in Magheramason, Northern Ireland, saw Afghanistan take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. Ireland were bowled out for 207 after a rain-reduced game to 47 overs per side. Khan, widely regarded as one of the top leg-spinners, took six crucial wickets, including four of the final seven, and finished with impressive figures of 6-34.

He became the third bowler in ODI history to take six wickets in an innings for Afghanistan. Khan's best bowling in ODIs remains 7-18 against the West Indies in 2017. He dismissed Andy Balbirnie and Harry Tector early on, both caught behind, before the freak dismissal of Lorcan Tucker. Mohammad Saleem's lbw call against Tucker was denied, but Tucker's late dismissal, when he was run out by Sediqullah Atal, marked the start of Ireland's collapse.

Ibrahim Zadran was Afghanistan's leading run-scorer with 84 runs in their total of 299-8. The series continues in Belfast on Monday.
