2nd Lieutenant Isaac Lenkume Commissioned from Sandhurst

On August 7, 2026, the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) commissioned 2nd Lieutenant Isaac Lenkume at the prestigious Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS) in the United Kingdom. Lenkume successfully completed the 44-week Regular Commissioning Course, which consists of three phases: Junior Term, Intermediate Term, and Senior Term. The course emphasized foundational skills, advanced leadership, and tactical training through complex military exercises.

Kenya's High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, H.E. Maurice Makoloo, expressed his admiration for Lenkume during the Sovereign’s Parade, the traditional graduation ceremony at Sandhurst. Makoloo praised Lenkume's performance and leadership, stating that he had "flown the Kenyan flag high" during his training at the academy. The High Commissioner's remarks were met with enthusiasm, as Lenkume is the 119th Kenyan to graduate from Sandhurst since 1960.

Previous notable Kenyan graduates from Sandhurst include retired Lieutenant General Daniel Ishmael Opande, who rose to the rank of Lieutenant General, and Senior Kenyan military officer Gen Bernard Kiilu. Other distinguished graduates include Col Alex Mwangangi and Gen Jeremiah Kianga, who later served as Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces.

Among the recent commissioned officers are 2Lt Stephen Keiya and 2Lt Sally Chebii, who were among 33 international cadets out of 243 who received their commissions at the same Sovereign’s Parade in 2019.
