Women’s Development Bank still on track – Vice President

Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has expressed confidence that the Women’s Development Bank will be established before year-end, reaffirming the government's commitment to the initiative. The bank aims to provide financial support to women in the informal sector, such as petty traders and hawkers, who often face difficulties in obtaining loans due to lack of collateral or formal financial records.

During an interview on The KSM Show, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang emphasized the government's determination to launch the bank, stating, "We said we’ll do the Women’s Development Bank. We are dead serious about it." She questioned whether existing banking services adequately serve low-income women, highlighting, "Does it include this lady who went to get somebody’s doughnuts to hawk?

Where will this woman get her capital? She’s also a woman." The Women’s Development Bank seeks to bridge this gap by offering financial opportunities to women excluded from conventional banking institutions. Prof. Opoku-Agyemang acknowledged that the government's primary focus remains on economic recovery, security, and skills development.

She also praised President John Dramani Mahama for his efforts to eliminate barriers to economic growth and enhance livelihoods across the country.
