Who wove your handloom sari? In Telangana’s Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, the answer is a QR scan away

Consumers in Telangana’s Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district can now learn more about the artisans who produce their handloom sari just by scanning a QR code, thanks to a new authentication system. The district administration has partnered with Jupitex AI to implement the QR code-based system, which aims to boost the visibility and authenticity of handloom products. During the National Handloom Day 2026 celebrations in Bhongir, the QR code initiative was unveiled.

Scanning the QR code provides consumers with detailed information about the individual weaver behind the product, including the weaver's name, address, geo-tag number, and data on the warp and weft used in the product. This initiative aims to give individual weavers greater recognition and help consumers make more informed purchasing decisions.

The QR code system is part of a broader set of measures introduced for the handloom sector during the celebrations. In Pochampally, weavers will soon have access to a Design Resource Centre, envisioned as an innovation hub where traditional weaving merges with contemporary design and evolving market trends. This center, supported by United Way Hyderabad and the Handlooms and Textiles Department, will offer weavers contemporary design inputs, trend forecasts, archives of traditional patterns, and institutional market linkages.

The center will provide training in design marking, dyeing, double ikat, loom and jacquard techniques, natural dyeing, and support for weavers with physical disabilities, including training on Modha pedal machines and the provision of these machines. Eye health camps will also be conducted for the weaving community.
