What to expect from Google Pixel Watch 5

Google is set to unveil its highly anticipated Pixel Watch 5 at a Made by Google event on August 12 in New York City. The watch is expected to launch shortly after the announcement, with leaks suggesting pre-orders may open on August 13 and the device going on sale on August 20. This would see the Pixel Watch 5 available for purchase just eight days after its official unveiling, a faster turnaround compared to the Pixel Watch 4, which took about 50 days between announcement and availability.

The Pixel Watch 5 is rumored to feature several upgrades over its predecessor. According to leaks, the watch will retain its 41mm and 45mm designs, using the same 320 ppi Actua 360 LTPO AMOLED display with peak brightness up to 3,000 nits and a customizable refresh rate between 1Hz and 60Hz. It will continue to boast 5 ATM water resistance and IP68 dust and water protection, and there are no reports of any new sensor hardware being introduced.

The most significant changes appear to involve the processor, memory, and storage. While the exact chip remains uncertain, with one leak citing a "Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 Accelerated" and another listing a standard Snapdragon W5 Gen 2, the watch is expected to feature either a 3GB or 3GB+ RAM configuration. Storage capacity is also anticipated to double from 32GB to 64GB, representing the first RAM upgrade since the original Pixel Watch's launch.

These hardware upgrades are reportedly being driven by rising memory costs, with Google citing a significant increase in the price of LPDDR5X RAM in 2026.
