We need a long-term vision for peace

In response to your editorial "Why the Iran war is spreading" (July 29), I wholeheartedly concur with the importance of a long-term vision for peace in the region. The ongoing conflict has already caused unprecedented human suffering and devastation, making it imperative for both Iran and the US to prioritize stability, security, and global peace over temporary strategic gains.

Moreover, the international community has a crucial role to play in fostering dialogue and ensuring that humanitarian concerns remain at the forefront of any discussions. Only through sincere negotiations, mutual restraint, and respect can lasting peace be achieved. Regrettably, the regime's foreign ministry maintains that they are not engaging in negotiations with the US, instead reaching out to Oman. This cyclical pattern merely prolongs the suffering and allows the regime's nuclear program to continue unchecked.

Regarding SpaceX's recent rocket part crash into the Moon (August 5), I fail to see why this incident has elicited such strong reactions. As you rightly point out, the Moon is no stranger to space debris, and even NASA intentionally crashed Apollo 12 onto the lunar surface in 1969. Instead of focusing on this natural occurrence, I believe people should be more worried about the potential mining of helium-3 on the Moon, a resource that could have significant implications for future energy needs.

Lastly, in my response to your article about Dubai's new animal shelter (July 30), I agree that there is still much work to be done. While the shelter has garnered attention for its efforts to care for stray cats, it is essential to address the root causes of the animal welfare crisis, which includes commercial breeding and the sale of animals for profit.

Rescuers and animal welfare organizations have been advocating for sustainable solutions for years, and I hope to see concrete action taken to protect the welfare of these vulnerable creatures.
