WATCH: Texas A&M transfer CB snags impressive interception

In a recent preseason practice, Texas A&M's 2026 secondary, already lauded by coach Mike Elko for its SEC-level depth, showcased their talent once again. With the addition of transfer cornerback Rickey Gibson, among several other new faces, the defense has shown signs of promise. Gibson, who missed only one game during the 2025 season with the Tennessee Volunteers, has the NFL-level abilities to make an immediate impact and step in to fill the void left by Will Lee III, who was drafted as the fourth round pick by the Carolina Panthers.

During the first practice on Wednesday, Gibson demonstrated his potential when he intercepted a pass from freshman wide receiver Jayden Warren, a play that was captured by Texas A&M Football's media team. This interception, while not a deflection, is a positive sign given Gibson's injury concerns from the previous season. As a redshirt junior, Gibson had a solid 2024 campaign, recording 32 tackles and three pass deflections.

Despite the impact of a full season missed, the return of Gibson with fresh legs and additional film study could be a game-changer for the Aggies' secondary.
