At least eight individuals lost their lives on Friday after a school shooting in Thailand, followed by the shooter taking his own life, according to a national police official. The gunman initiated the attack by killing his grandparents at their residence before embarking on a rampage at Debsirin Nonthaburi School in Bangkok's Nonthaburi province.

The assailant discharged 26 rounds of ammunition, while additional 34 rounds were discovered at the scene, as reported by the police. Surveillance footage captured students cowering under their desks amidst the gunfire, which could be heard in the background. The incident unfolded at Debsirin Nonthaburi School, located in the Bang Kruai district of Nonthaburi province, northwest of Bangkok.

Police have confirmed that the perpetrator was a student, and identified him as the shooter. Lt Col Dechrapee Kongdee, commander of the Nonthaburi Provincial Police, notified Reuters of the fatalities and stated that the suspected gunman had taken his own life. The injured included one teacher and three students. One 18-year-old student recounted initially mistaking the gunfire for firecrackers or someone banging an object.

He explained, "There were many shots: bang bang bang. Then it went quiet. Then it started again." District authorities revealed that the school accommodated approximately 3,100 students and 147 teachers during the 2025 academic year. This tragic event follows a separate shooting in February, where a teacher was killed and a student injured at a school in Hat Yai district, southern Thailand.
