Verstappen warned over one key flaw: 'There are also negative sides'

Former Dutch racing driver Christijan Albers has encouraged his compatriot Max Verstappen to offer more encouragement to Red Bull amid a mixed start to the 2026 Formula 1 season. Albers, speaking to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, cautioned Verstappen not to be overly critical of the team, even when things are not going as planned.

Verstappen and Red Bull have been embroiled in a challenging season following the introduction of new regulations and the debut of their home-developed power unit. Despite this, the four-time world champion has managed to secure four podium finishes, though they currently sit sixth in the championship standings. Albers acknowledged Verstappen's honesty as a key strength, but warned it can sometimes work against him, making him overly focused on his own expectations and overlooking the fact that all drivers are striving for the same goal.

Albers believes Verstappen's mindset could use a shift, emphasizing that 22 drivers share the desire to win and become world champions, not just the team he represents.
