'Unnecessary pressure': Ex-cricketer questions Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's vice-captaincy

Ex-cricketer Priyank Panchal has voiced concerns over Gujarat captain Vaibhav Sooryavanshi being appointed as East Zone vice-captain for the upcoming Duleep Trophy, arguing that the teenager should first gain experience in red-ball cricket.Panchal, citing Sooryavanshi's limited first-class appearances, questions the decision to give the leadership role to a player with only eight such outings.

Despite Sooryavanshi's impressive performance in Zimbabwe, where he was named Player of the Series, Panchal believes the selectors could have waited to see if the young cricketer could handle the added responsibility."It could put unnecessary pressure on the young kid," Panchal tweeted. "Let him understand the dynamics of red ball cricket first, properly, before entrusting such duties upon him."The debate over the appointment has sparked among fans and former cricketers, with some arguing that Sooryavanshi needs more time to develop before taking on a leadership role in one of India's premier domestic tournaments.

However, East Zone selectors defend the decision, stating that it is part of a long-term plan to help Sooryavanshi's development. They believe that being a vice-captain will allow him to observe the captain closely and learn how a team is run.
