Trump downplays escalating Russian airstrikes on Ukraine

U.S. President Donald Trump downplayed Russia's increasing air assaults on Ukraine, stating at a White House press conference that the United States remains safely distanced from the conflict by an ocean, according to Clash Report. When questioned about the surge in Russian strikes on Ukraine, Trump declared, "We're not involved." "We're separated by an ocean," Trump reiterated. "But I hate to see 25,000 young people a month get killed – and that's what's happening between Russia and Ukraine."

Trump previously dismissed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's plea for long-range missiles or additional Patriot air defense batteries, attributing the depleted ammunition stockpiles to his predecessor, Joe Biden. "We want missiles, too," Trump said. "When I left office, the stockpiles were full, and he gave most of them away. Now we are rebuilding our reserves."

Exploiting Ukraine's shortage of Patriot air defense interceptor missiles, Russia has escalated its ballistic missile strikes on Kyiv and other major cities. On August 5, Russian forces launched four Zircon/Oniks anti-ship missiles and 24 Iskander-M/S-400 ballistic missiles, marking the third such attack in a week. Air defense forces were unable to intercept any of the incoming missiles.

The enemy strikes resulted in 17 deaths and 44 injuries across Kyiv and Kyiv Oblast, predominantly targeting a railway station, critical infrastructure, and commercial warehouses of major retailers such as Nova Poshta, Rozetka, Silpo, Epicentr, and Novus.
