Tinubu receives outgoing ECOWAS commission president

President Bola Tinubu welcomed Dr. Omar Touray, the outgoing president of the ECOWAS Commission, at the State House in Abuja on Thursday. Touray arrived at the Presidential Villa accompanied by Sola Enikanolaiye, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs. Although specifics of their private discussion were not disclosed, the meeting took place weeks prior to Touray's official handover of leadership.

Dr. Touray, a seasoned diplomat, began his tenure as the ECOWAS Commission President on July 3, 2022, after receiving unanimous support from The Gambia and approval from the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government. He succeeded Jean-Claude Kassi Brou, an Ivorian diplomat who held the position from 2018 to 2022. Prior to his appointment at ECOWAS, Touray held various positions including The Gambia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations and Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs under the previous government.
