Thailand school shooting: Student opens fire; 2 dead

Bangkok: A 14-year-old Thai student killed five people, including his grandparents, and himself at a school outside the capital on Friday, marking the Southeast Asian nation's deadliest mass shooting in nearly four years. The gunman, who used a registered firearm belonging to his grandfather, fired at least 26 bullets before taking his own life.

Students evacuated the Debsirin Nonthaburi School, with wounded staff members being transported to hospitals. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul revealed that the suspect's friend reported he had been under stress related to school, and his actions indicated a well-planned assault. Education Minister Prasert Jantararuangtong promised to bolster mental health support and security at schools.

This incident follows a deadly school shooting in Thailand's south in February, and the nation's worst mass killing by a single perpetrator in 2022, where a former policeman killed 36 people, including 22 children, in a daycare center.
