Tema youth endorse TMA’s beach demolition exercise to restore order

The Tema Youth Association has backed the Tema Metropolitan Assembly's (TMA) demolition of unauthorized structures within designated security zones, particularly at Tema Manhean beach. They view the initiative as progress towards restoring order, sanitation, and public safety in the city. A letter from the association to Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive Madam Ebi Bright and media outlets commends the assembly's efforts in removing unauthorized structures along the Tema Fishing Harbour beachfront.

The group hopes the redevelopment will draw investment and revitalize the area, transforming it into a modern economic hub with diverse employment prospects. TMA's Public Relations Officer, Mr. Frank Asante, explained that the demolition is part of a metropolitan-wide facelift campaign aimed at enforcing designated security zones and enhancing public spaces.

He emphasized that the exercise is designed to promote orderly development without adversely affecting residents' livelihoods. Mr. Asante stated that the naval base and other public institutions are designated security zones, and the assembly has already carried out similar enforcement actions in other communities before targeting the naval enclave.

The chiefs at Community Eight No. Two Basic School have also expressed support for the initiative. The TMA is working with fish processors to ensure that the redevelopment supports their economic activities rather than disrupting them. The assembly is planning stakeholder meetings with the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) to educate fish processors on hygienic practices.

The current demolition phase, which entered its eleventh day, is projected to conclude within the planned 15-day period.
