Software engineer arrested over air gun firing at parking area, guards

A 40-year-old software engineer, Anurag Tiwari, was arrested after allegedly firing an air gun from his apartment balcony in Anekal taluk, Bengaluru, early Thursday. The incident occurred around 2.30 am, causing damage to parked vehicles and allegedly targeting security guards. Tiwari, who lived in Sipani Apartments near Bandapura for eight months, had reportedly consumed alcohol the night before.

No injuries were reported in the incident. Tiwari was reportedly heard shouting while on the phone inside his apartment before stepping onto the balcony and firing pellets from the air gun towards the parking area below for about 45 minutes. The firing continued until residents alerted the police control room. Security guards who went to investigate were also allegedly fired upon, though thankfully, no one was injured.

Several parked vehicles were damaged as the pellets shattered their window glass. The police apprehended Tiwari soon after receiving the complaint and took him into custody. Forensic evidence was recovered from the scene, and the air gun was seized. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway to determine if the accused possessed the air gun legally and if any additional offenses are involved.
