'So proud of them' - Cork club primed to cheer on heroes

In an upcoming showdown, Cork's camogie team, known as the Rebels, will face Galway's Tribeswomen in the third consecutive All-Ireland Camogie Final at Croke Park on Sunday. The reigning champions, Cork, are aiming to extend their record-breaking 31st title reign, while Galway seeks to retain the O'Duffy Cup and achieve the historic first-ever back-to-back senior titles.

Last year, the match was decided by just a single point. Across Cork, excitement and nerves are palpable as clubs rally to support the Rebels in their quest for redemption. St Finbarr's in Togher, a club with six members on Cork's camogie panel, including captain Méabh Cahalane, is a prime example of this local support. Camogie has been an integral part of life in the parish since 1905, with St Finbarr's boasting a rich history of success.

The club has won back-to-back Cork camogie championships in 2024 and 2025 and has had several players excel at the All-Ireland level, including three-time O'Duffy Cup winner Colette O’Mahony. O’Mahony praises the growth of camogie since her playing days in the 1990s and credits the increased participation to the wider success of both clubs and counties.

She also highlights the pride in the St Finbarr's players who will represent the county in Sunday's decider, stating that they are a source of immense pride for the club. St Finbarr's club member and Chair Eoin Fitzpatrick echoes this sentiment, emphasizing the significance of homegrown players at intercounty level and the importance of role models for the future of the sport.
