Snohomish Softball Little League hoping to make it to the World Series

The Snohomish Little League Softball team is aiming for the Little League Softball World Series championship weekend. Despite suffering a 14-0 defeat in their opening match, they remain in the tournament, thanks to the all-around performance of their star pitcher, Maddie Locke. Locke expressed her excitement, stating that this experience is once in a lifetime.

Maddie's dad, Drew, an assistant coach, expressed his delight at being part of this memorable moment. Maddie's mother, Danielle Lawrie, a former UW softball standout, NCAA Champion, and Olympic medalist, emphasized that this summer will be cherished by the family for a long time. However, the financial strain of traveling around the country has been significant, with each family's trip costing around $6,000.

Despite this, the community has rallied to support the families through fundraising efforts. The tournament is a double-elimination format, which means that a loss to Florida was followed by consecutive wins against Texas and Canada, setting up a rematch with Florida. A victory would advance Washington to the semifinals on Saturday, with the first pitch scheduled for noon the following day. The team is seeking assistance for travel expenses via a GoFundMe campaign.
