Real Madrid Sign Diomande From RB Leipzig

Real Madrid have completed the signing of 19-year-old winger Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig in a deal worth up to £120 million (140 million euros). The young Ivorian talent has committed to a seven-year contract with the Spanish giants. The fee could surpass the £115 million Real paid for Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund in June 2023.

Initially, Paris St-Germain were the frontrunners for the teenager, but the Champions League winners withdrew on Sunday after RB Leipzig rejected a £102.5 million offer. If Real Madrid secure the full £120 million, Diomande would become the fourth most expensive player in history, behind Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, and Alexander Isak of Liverpool.

Diomande is also the most expensive African player, eclipsing Arsenal's £72 million spending on Nicolas Pepe from Lille in 2019. The Ivorian winger was previously targeted by Liverpool, who made an initial £69 million bid in June, which was subsequently rejected. With the summer transfer window still open, Diomande is now Real Madrid's sixth summer signing under the guidance of Jose Mourinho, who also brought in Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konate, Denzel Dumfries, Marc Cucurella, and Carlos Espi.

In a statement, the teenager expressed his gratitude to Leipzig fans, stating that joining Madrid is a childhood dream come true. He added that he is deeply thankful for the management at RB Leipzig for making the move possible, even though his current contract with Leipzig remains intact. Diomande, who was named Bundesliga's Young Player of the Season for the 2025-26 season, scored 12 goals and provided eight assists in the competition.

He featured in all four of Ivory Coast's World Cup matches, where they were eliminated in the round of 32 by Norway.
