Saudi authorities carried out a significant crackdown on illegal residents, arresting a total of 14,440 individuals over the course of a week from July 30 to August 5, the Ministry of Interior reported on Saturday. The majority of those apprehended were in violation of the Residency Law (7,090), the Border Security Law (3,932), and the Labor Law (3,418).
Of the 10,827 illegal residents deported, 1,593 were caught attempting to cross the border, with the majority being Yemeni nationals (40 percent), Ethiopian nationals (59 percent), and one percent belonging to other nationalities. Thirty-two individuals were arrested while trying to leave the Kingdom illegally. Additionally, 25 people were detained for providing transportation, shelter, and employment to the violators.
In total, 32,012 expatriates are currently undergoing legal measures. The Ministry of Interior has warned that anyone aiding illegal entry, transporting, providing shelter, or any assistance to violators will face up to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to SR1 million. Vehicles used for transportation or houses used for shelter will be confiscated.
