Public advised ‘in the strongest possible terms’ not to attend Wicklow-based GP

The Medical Council has issued a stern warning to the public about a potential patient safety risk associated with Dr. Regine Grah, a GP at Silver Oak Family Practice in Bray, Wicklow. The Council believes Grah is still practicing despite her professional registration being suspended by the High Court last month. In a rare statement, the Council urged patients and the public to avoid attending Grah's clinic, requesting appointments, or obtaining prescriptions from her.

They expressed grave concerns over possible serious consequences for patient safety if she continues to practice.

The suspension was prompted by the Council's investigation into Grah's prescribing practices. Three pharmacies in the Wicklow and south Dublin regions raised concerns about her potentially hazardous prescribing methods. In March, a pharmacist in Bray alleged that Grah had been prescribing benzodiazepines and "Z-drugs" without a clear treatment plan, often issuing multiple prescriptions to the same patients through different pharmacies.

This practice, the Council claims, could lead patients to obtain higher doses or quantities of these sedative-hypnotic medications.

The judge in the case, David Barniville, noted that Grah, who graduated in 2018 from a Romanian university, had claimed that certain patients were already taking these medications before attending her practice. She also stated that she planned to gradually wean these patients off the medications. However, the judge was gravely concerned about the evidence presented, including three related patients being prescribed Xanax and diazepam in significant quantities between December 2025 and February 2026.

Another pharmacist in County Wicklow expressed concern over high-dose prescriptions and those given to individuals with known substance misuse issues.

Barniville granted the Medical Council's request to name Grah in the media, stating that this decision was necessary to protect the public as there was evidence she was still practicing and writing prescriptions without proper insurance. The judge stated that while Grah's right to a good name and livelihood was a consideration, the protection of the public was significantly more important.

If future fitness to practice proceedings resulted in adverse findings against Grah, serious sanctions could be imposed, including the cancellation of her professional registration.
