Palace sign Japan defender Tomiyasu after trial period

Crystal Palace has officially announced the signing of Japan defender Takehiro Tomiyasu, securing him on a free transfer. The 27-year-old, boasting 46 caps, was once a member of Arsenal and has since been part of Ajax's squad, spending the latter half of last season there. Tomiyasu is versatile, capable of operating at both full-back and centre-back positions.

Manager Pierre Sage has added Tomiyasu as his second signing this summer, following the acquisition of Oscar Mingueza. The South London club has experienced a prosperous period in recent years, clinching the FA Cup, Community Shield, and UEFA Conference League under former manager Oliver Glasner. Tomiyasu expressed his enthusiasm about joining Crystal Palace, stating that the team is in an excellent position, having secured three titles within a two-season span.

Palace chairman Steve Parish welcomed Tomiyasu, acknowledging his proven experience at the top levels of both European and international football, and expressed delight at adding a player of his caliber to the club.
