Palace sign defender Tomiyasu after pre-season trial

Crystal Palace have secured the signing of Japan defender Takehiro Tomiyasu following a successful pre-season trial. The 27-year-old free agent, who played for Arsenal in the second half of the previous season, has also represented Japan in the World Cup. Tomiyasu, who can play as a full-back or centre-back, joins the club as the second signing under new manager Pierre Sage, following Oscar Mingueza.

Palace did not disclose the length of Tomiyasu's contract. The Eagles opted to strengthen their defense after Maxence Lacroix signed with Chelsea. Tomiyasu boasts extensive experience in top-tier European and international football, having played 84 matches for Arsenal between 2021 and 2025. Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish praised Tomiyasu, stating that the club is in a positive phase, having won three titles in just two seasons.

The defender expressed his excitement about joining the new management team. Additionally, Palace are exploring the possibility of a loan deal for Chelsea defender Josh Acheampong and are interested in French centre-back Raphael le Guen.
