NYSC warns against fake redeployment notice circulating online

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has issued a warning against a circulating notice on social media that claims a special window for redeployment of Corps members is open. The fraudulent notice, which was flagged and denounced by the NYSC as fake news, was addressed to parents and guardians of Corps members. It falsely claimed that the redeployment window was opened due to issues of national security, health, and the state of the nation.

The notice urged Corps members with valid reasons to apply on time to ensure their safety, proper placement, and timely completion of service. It also asked those seeking assistance to contact two listed phone numbers as soon as possible, stating that valid documents were required and all applications must adhere to NYSC guidelines.

In response to the fake notice, the NYSC's National Directorate Headquarters posted a disclaimer on its verified X handle, @officialnyscng, marking it as "FAKE NEWS" to caution the public against the deceptive message. The scheme did not reveal the identities of the individuals behind the false notice at the time of this report.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time fraudsters have taken advantage of the redeployment process to extort money from unsuspecting Corps members and their families. NYSC, currently under the leadership of Director-General Olakunle Nafiu, has consistently emphasized that deployment and redeployment matters are exclusively handled through its official portal and offices.

They have repeatedly cautioned that no agents or phone-based processing is authorized for such requests.

The NYSC has urged Corps members and members of the public to verify any purported NYSC communication through the scheme's official website and social media handles before taking any action or making payments.
