Norwegian FA chief Klaveness cools Fifa election talk and takes swipe at Blatter

Norwegian football chief Lise Klaveness has downplayed her ambitions for a position in Fifa and criticized Sepp Blatter, the former head of the organization. A fierce critic of Fifa, Klaveness is seen as a possible challenger to current head Gianni Infantino, who is under pressure after his controversial plan to sell off shares in a new company that would handle World Cup commercial rights.

Klaveness stated, "As of now, we have a sitting president who is still sitting, and that is what we are dealing with." She added, "When and if he resigns, or if he does not resign and seeks re-election, there must be a counter-candidate. Then we must decide on that, and then you will know." The press frequently speculates about potential candidates, but Klaveness has not heard any internal discussions about actual contenders.

Blatter has expressed admiration for Klaveness, praising her for consistently taking a clear stance and urging a woman to assume the leadership role in Fifa. However, Klaveness dismissed Blatter's support, pointing to his past comments about women's football, which included advocating for shorter shorts for players. No challenger has emerged to contest Infantino's re-election, which is currently set to take place unopposed next year.

Both UEFA, AFC, and Concacaf have expressed their loss of confidence in Infantino's leadership, with Concacaf president Victor Montagliani reportedly considering a bid for the position, while UEFA chief Aleksander Ceferin has not signaled any intention to run.
