NAMDA gives FG three weeks to meet demands, threatens strike

The Nigerian Association of Medical and Dental Academics (NAMDA) has given the Federal Government three weeks to address its demands, warning of a strike if negotiations fail by August 31, 2026. The association, led by President Dr Nosa Lancy Orhue and Acting Secretary-General Prof. Aniekan Peter, called for the extension at its Emergency National Executive Council (E-NEC) meeting.

The communiqué stated the extension would allow the government to work on resolving outstanding issues. Failure to reach a meaningful agreement by the deadline would trigger a three-day warning strike announced by the National Organizing Committee (NOC). The association also urged all branches to hold congresses and sensitivity programs within the timeframe, reporting back to the NEC.

They criticized the government's lack of priority on medical education and training, urging full implementation of approved benefits for medical and dental lecturers.
