MotoGP team boss sees huge potential for growth under new owner

MotoGP's owner, Liberty Media, sees immense growth potential for the sport, according to Guenther Steiner, KTM Tech3 owner and former Haas F1 team boss. Steiner, speaking before the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, compared MotoGP to Formula One from two decades ago, suggesting the two-wheeled sport has significant commercial opportunities waiting to be exploited.

"MotoGP doesn’t have to look exactly at what F1 is doing, they can write their own story," Steiner emphasized. While acknowledging F1's success under Liberty's leadership, Steiner believes MotoGP can also achieve greatness, albeit on a different scale. He stressed that MotoGP's racing is already top-tier, but the sport could benefit from improvements in presentation, much like Formula One has done.

Steiner noted the U.S. market could support more MotoGP events, citing Formula One's recent expansion in that region. The Italian owner, who has been instrumental in taking over the KTM Tech3 team, suggested a more diverse field of riders to spice up the sport. Currently, Spanish and Italian riders dominate MotoGP, with both countries hosting numerous races.

Steiner believes diversifying the talent pool globally would add more excitement. Vinales will miss this weekend's race due to shoulder surgery, replaced by Spanish test rider Pol Espargaro. Meanwhile, Silverstone announced the extension of its contract to keep the British Grand Prix running until 2028.
