Middlesbrough 1-0 Wrexham: Spectacular Lankshear moves Boro into second round

Middlesbrough secured their spot in the second round of the Carabao Cup with a 1-0 victory over Wrexham at the Riverside Stadium. Tottenham Hotspur loanee Will Lankshear scored the winning goal in impressive style during the hour mark. Middlesbrough named three new signings in their starting lineup, including American duo Sebastian Berhalter and Max Arfsten, as well as Lankshear. Wrexham's lone debutist was Danny Imray, who started on the right flank.

Oliver Rathbone opened the scoring for Middlesbrough with a shot in the early stages, but it went over the bar. Danny Imray made an early impact by clearing a cross behind the goal, leading to a corner that forced an impressive save from Danny Ward. Shortly after, Wrexham failed to capitalize on a cross from Callum Doyle, which could have potentially put them ahead.

Sam Smith had a notable performance in the first half, with a well-saved effort by Solomon Brynn and a yellow card for simulation. In the second half, Lankshear took a shot that flew high and wide. Ryan Longman replaced Imray early in the game, and Kyle Joseph and George Edmundson joined the substitutes.

Lankshear committed a foul in the 65th minute, resulting in a yellow card for the forward. Wrexham made substitutions, including Whiteman, Cadamarteri, Kieffer Moore, and David Keillor-Dunne, to replace Rathbone, Matty James, and Nathan Broadhead. Morgan Whittaker and Dominic Hyam were both shown yellow cards during the closing stages, leading to frustration for the Welsh side as they exited the competition.
