Manasseh Awuni invokes RTI for evidence of Sedina Tamakloe’s appeal filing timelines

Ghanaian investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni has petitioned the Judicial Service for RTI (Right to Information) data concerning the appeal timelines of former Microfinance Bank CEO Sedina Christine Tamakloe Attionu. Ms. Attionu, who was convicted of 78 counts of financial misconduct, had her conviction overturned by the Court of Appeal in July 2026 after she returned from the United States to serve her original 10-year prison sentence.

Despite the Court of Appeal's decision, conspiracy theories have arisen regarding the timeline of her appeal. According to the Attorney-General's Department, they were only informed of the appeal in February 2026, leading to speculation that there may have been underhanded dealings. Manasseh Awuni's request for information from the Judicial Service aims to clarify this nearly two-year delay in notifying the Attorney-General's office and to provide evidence of the filing timelines.

He made the following specific inquiries: the date and time the court suit was filed, served on the Attorney-General's office, and the receipt of payment bonds and other costs associated with the case; the date and time the case was recorded in the court's Case Registration Book; the BP Number of the suit; and an explanation for the alleged delay in informing the Attorney-General if the claim that the government was not notified of the appeal in May 2024 until February 2026 is true.

Awuni's RTI request, submitted on August 5, 2026, is part of his ongoing commitment to transparency and trust in the judiciary.
