Man, 38, dies after car hit traffic light, tree, road divider & overturned in Hougang

A 38-year-old man tragically lost his life after a series of unfortunate events unfolded on Hougang Avenue 6 in the early hours of August 7. The driver was involved in a collision with a traffic light, mounted a divider, and the vehicle ultimately overturned. Upon impact, the driver was trapped inside and unconscious. He was eventually rescued and transported to the hospital, but sadly, he succumbed to his injuries.

Witness Long, 29, saw the overturned car and believed the driver had first struck a traffic light before colliding with the divider. Around 10 SCDF officers were needed to cut open the roof of the car to free the driver. Video footage showed numerous fire engines, police cars, and medics performing CPR on the driver.

Neighbours reported hearing a loud crash and noticed the driver's head was bleeding. They waited for the SCDF to arrive and free the driver, who was eventually towed away at around 8am. The accident caused significant damage, with debris scattered up to 100 meters away, and a traffic light snapped in two. Motorists were forced to detour due to the chaos caused by the incident.

Police and SCDF responded to the scene, with the police stating that the car had self-skidded and the driver was conveyed unconscious to the hospital. Ongoing investigations are being conducted to determine the exact cause of the accident.
