Lindsay Clancy trial spotlights psychiatric hospital stay before she killed her 3 children

Lindsay Clancy's upcoming murder trial has shed light on the five-day psychiatric hospitalization she experienced just weeks before the 2023 killings of her three children. This period of time is crucial to both the prosecution and defense in their arguments regarding her mental state during the time of the crime. During questioning of one of her McLean Hospital psychiatrists, a prosecutor highlighted that Clancy denied to the hospital staff that she desired to harm anyone else or planned to take her own life.

However, Clancy's legal team is focusing on disputing this, aiming to emphasize her long-term struggle with mental health issues. They argue that she sought medical help for months, but was improperly diagnosed and prescribed medications that exacerbated her condition. The defense claims that Clancy, a 35-year-old former labor and delivery nurse, was suffering from bipolar disorder and postpartum psychosis, both of which were not fully diagnosed until after the killings. Despite this, one of her outpatient providers had considered bipolar disorder in 2022.
