Let us reject violence, intimidation, Davido urges Osun voters

Afrobeats musician Davido has urged both political figures and Osun State residents to ensure a peaceful gubernatorial election by eschewing violence, intimidation, and actions that could undermine community peace. In a post on his social media platform, Davido cautioned against disruptive behavior and emphasized that each voter's choice should be respected.

He called on the people of Osun to demonstrate their dedication to democracy and peaceful coexistence by stating, "LET THE OSUN PLE DECIDE! FREE AND FAIR! VOTE NOT FIGHT!" Davido, who is the nephew of incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, endorsed the governor's re-election bid, declaring, "ACCORD IS THE PARTY! ADEMOLA ADELEKE IS THE CHOICE!"

His message emerged as political campaigns intensified ahead of the Osun gubernatorial election. The singer's involvement in the election has garnered attention due to his substantial influence among young Nigerians and his close relationship with Adeleke. Davido's support for Adeleke's re-election bid comes after his active role in the 2022 election, where he helped secure his uncle's victory over then incumbent Governor Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress.

Ahead of the 2026 election, Davido has adopted a more prominent role in Adeleke's campaign, joining the Accord Party and advocating for young voter mobilization. Concerned about the credibility of the electoral process, Davido threatened to seek international attention if the election were compromised. During a livestream with comedian Carter Efe, Davido vowed to involve former U.S. President Donald Trump if any issues arose during the election.

Adeleke, who previously represented the People's Democratic Party in the 2022 election, defected to the Accord Party prior to the upcoming race and is expected to compete against Bola Oyebamiji and other contenders in the gubernatorial poll.
