Kokofu Steps Up Ashanti NPP Chairmanship Bid With Second Regional Tour

Dr. Henry Kwabena Kokofu, a candidate for the Ashanti Regional Chairmanship of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), is intensifying his campaign with a second regional tour. The tour aims to rally party delegates behind his message of hope, forgiveness, and renewal following the party’s 2024 election loss. During the tour, Kokofu visited Obuasi East, Akrofuom, New Edubiase, Fomena, Bekwai, Odotobri, and Bosome Freho, meeting newly elected constituency executives and congratulating those who secured seats in the party’s recent internal elections.

Kokofu emphasized the need to rebuild trust at the grassroots level to improve the NPP’s competitiveness in the 2028 general election. He proposed strengthening the party’s organization by creating a membership database, fortifying internal and security structures, and allocating more resources to the youth and women’s wings for grassroots mobilization.

Kokofu, a former chief executive of the Environmental Protection Agency and a former Member of Parliament for Bantama, outlined his strategy to reclaim constituencies lost to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 election. He argued that his blend of academic and political experience makes him well-equipped to lead the party’s rebuilding effort.

Kokofu urged supporters not to allow the intra-party contest to cause division, urging members to unite behind party flagbearer Mahamudu Bawumia, regardless of who wins the regional race. He also vowed to address misinformation targeting Bawumia and his family, accusing unnamed sources of spreading "fabricated stories" that had gone unanswered.

Constituency executives attending the events pledged their support for Kokofu’s bid and called for prioritization of unity, party security, and resource mobilization if elected. The race for the Ashanti Regional Chairmanship remains ongoing, with delegates expected to vote in the coming months.
